Free Desmyter performed with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Chris Joris, griot N'Faly Kouaté, Baba Sissoko, Lod, Mons Orchestra, Dick van der Harst, Oxalys, Orion Celtic, Amparo Cortez, Ialma, Bassem Hawar, Liu Fang.
His work as jazzpianist, composer, arranger, is an amalgam of different musical styles. And he moves, as to say, as a cameleon into jazz, classical and worldmusic.
Free Desmyter obtained prices, such as Prix Nicolas d'Or, Sabamprice. And the national "Creole German Wordmusic Award with de Irakee-German-Belgian formation "Ahoar", for which he composed in the Persian musical stylel: maqam with a new approach. A live recording session by Deutsche Welle Bonn for a meeting of Irakee journalists has been broadcasted in Bagdad during the war, as statement.
Free Desmyter toured with the African band N'Faly Kouyaté and Dunyakan in Canada, England and Belgium, by which concerts, interviews have been broadcasted by BBC World and Canadian TV and radiostations. And he orchestrated music from N'Faly Kouyaté played by the Mons Chamber Orchestra with the "Chris Joris Experience" band in the concerthall in Bruges.
Since 2002, Free Desmyter participates with Chris Joris 's projects. And he records 2 CD's, 1 DVD. The CD "Out of the night" receives the radio VRT Klara Music Award.
2014, Free Desmyter goes to Mozambique for a project with Musicfund and the Royal Conservatoy of Antwerpen, and teaches at the University Edwardo Mondlane in Maputo. He integrates with the local musicians and concerts were given at the Culture Centre Franco Mozambicane, and Sigauque Projeto.
Free Desmyter receives carte blanche by the culture ambassador from Boedapest for the project Flemisch Masters in Hongary.
Free Desmyter composed music for the theaterplay "The childhood of Jesus" based on the novel from J.M. Coetzee (Nobel Prize in Literature). A production by "Toneelhuis" produced by Guy Cassiers and directed by Mohkallad Rasem.

Free Desmyter werkte samen met Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Chris Joris, N'Faly Kouyaté, Baba Sissoko, Lod, Mons Orchestra, Dick van der Harst, Oxalys, Orion Celtic, Amparo Cortez, Ialma, Bassem Hawar, Liu Fang.
Zijn veelzijdigheid als componist, arrangeur en pianist in jazz, lichte muziek en wereldmuziek maakt dat hij zich als een cameleon kan integreren in verschillende muziekstijlen.
Hij won verschillende prijzen waaronder die van Prix Nicolas d'Or, Sabamprijs en de "Creole German World Music Award" met de Irakees-Duits-Belgische formatie "Ahoar", waarvoor hij ook in die Perzische muziekstijl componeerde met een vernieuwende invalshoek. Tijdens een bijeenkomst van Irakese journalisten op radiostation "Deutsche Welle Bonn" speelde "Ahoar" er voor de gelegenheid. Dat werd door de radio opgenomen en uitgezonden in Bagdad tijdens de oorlog als statement.
Free Desmyter toerde met de Afrikaanse band van griot N'Faly Kouyaté en Dunyakan in Canada, België en Engeland, waarvan concerten door BBC World en verscheidene Canadese TV- en radiostations werden uitgezonden. Hij orchestreerde muziek van N'Faly Kouyaté in opdracht van Chris Joris. Dat is opgevoerd in het Concertgebouw Brugge door het "Mons Orchestra" met "Chris Joris Experience"
Sinds 2002 is Free Desmyter actief bij Chris Joris. Hij neemt met hem 2 CD's en 1 DVD op. De CD "Out of the night" wordt beloond met de radio VRT Klara-muziekprijs.
In 2014 begeeft Free zich naar Mozambique waar hij in samenwerking met Musicfund en het conservatorium van Antwerpen, doceert aan de Universiteit Edwarde Mondlane van Maputo. Hij integreert er zich met alle lagen van de bevolking en concerteert in Chamanculo, Sigauqu Projeto en Centre Culturel Franco Mozambicane met de lokale musici.
Op uitnodiging van de Vlaamse culturele ambassadeur in Boedapest, krijgt Free Desmyter carte blanche voor een concert onder het moto van "Vlaanderen in Hongarije".
Free Desmyter is aan het componeren en laat zich tegenwoordig inspireren door de Franse muziek van welleer, wat door zijn collega's uit de theaterwereld als zeer filmisch wordt omschreven. Het "Free Desmyter Trio" heeft deels van die muziek op zijn repertoire.
